Understanding Through Art: Middle Eastern Artists’ Showcase and Interfaith Conversation

Speaker
Artists with Givat Haviva
Students are invited to engage with Israeli artists from different religious backgrounds- Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Druze-who work in media ranging from sculpture and painting to photography and musical composition.
Snacks will be provided. No registration is required. This event takes place in the Student Wellness Center, Room 148. For directions to the center, see https://maps.duke.edu/?focus=348 .
The five artists are graduate students at Givat Haviva, The Center for a Shared Society, a nongovernmental organization in Israel that seeks to promote Jewish-Arab partnership through its work in education, language instruction, culture, and art. The artists are at Duke through a residency that is part of the Provost's Initiative on the Middle East.
At this event, students meet the artists, view a presentation on their art, and learn how they work across different religions, cultures, and artistic approaches. Read more about the artists and their artwork: https://provost.duke.edu/givat-haviva-artist-residency .
This event is organized by Duke Chapel and Religious Life at Duke in collaboration with the Office of the Provost. The artists' residency was organized by the Provost's Initiative on the Middle East with support from the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts and the Charles H. Revson Foundation.
