Islamic Perspectives on Prophecy and Revelation

AMI's Department of Islamic Philosophy and Theology in collaboration with the Department of Religious Studies and the Duke Islamic Studies Center at Duke University, is delighted to open registration for the international conference on 'Islamic Perspectives on Prophecy and Revelation.' The conference will be held over two days, from 24th to 25th July 2025 at Duke University, Rubenstein Library, Holsti-Anderson Family Assembly Room (153), 403 Chapel Drive, Durham, NC, 27708. This conference explores the core Islamic belief in prophecy and revelation, not just through the life of the Prophet Muḥammad (pbuh), but as a broader philosophical and theological phenomenon. Rather than focusing solely on historical narratives, it examines how prophecy has been understood across various Islamic disciplines, and how modern scholars have reinterpreted these ideas in light of contemporary intellectual challenges. By engaging with both classical thought and modern critiques, the conference aims to deepen understanding of the role of revelation in shaping Islamic theology and its relevance to today's world.
