CEE Seminar -OPPORTUNITIES AND TRENDS OF AI and COMPUTING IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Speaker

Kincho H. Law, Dist.M. ASCE, F. ASME, S.M. IEEE, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University

Civil Engineering has had a long and successful history in adopting computing technologies, from computer graphics, CAD, engineering analyses, virtual simulations, to project management. AI and machine learning have drawn significant interests in recent years and have found many applications in engineering. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the potential uses of AI and machine learning models for a variety of applications. The presentation covers a brief review of AI research and development in engineering and introduces selected examples to illustrate the broad applications of AI from regulation management, diagnostic, prognostic and control problems to smart manufacturing and mobility technologies for the built environment.
