Our services are ideal for Duke managers and supervisors who are proactive about creating a unified, inclusive team.
Diversity, Intercultural, and Inclusion Education
Open Enrollment Workshops
Duke employees can register for diversity/inclusion workshops on topics like implicit bias in hiring decisions, generational issues in the workplace, and engaging diverse teams.
Workshops on various diversity and inclusion topics can be customized to meet the particular needs and culture of a department, professional school, or work environment.
Lectures and Presentations
Lectures and presentations can be designed and delivered to groups of any size. Topic areas include managing issues of harassment in the workplace and learning environment, implicit bias in the academy, and the challenges of building a diverse workforce.
Video and Online Education
Online learning resources, including toolkits and video clips, are available to people and departments as part of a long-term structured diversity and inclusion intervention or as a short-term learning opportunity.
Leadership and Organizational Development
Customized Professional Development Curriculum
Using a range of tailored approaches and organizational leadership research, we provide executive coaching for Duke leaders on diversity and intercultural awareness in five areas:
- Team building
- Workforce culture
- Strategic planning
- Student engagement (undergraduate and graduate)
- Goal setting
Our team works directly with staff and faculty in ways that are measurable, practical, and task oriented. This includes working across the Duke enterprise in the professional development space.
We’ll create a customized curriculum and identify outcomes that are tied to measurable growth over time. Our program helps prepare the Duke community to reflect and build on a wide range of human experiences, ways of knowing, and practices — all of which are at the core of our leadership and organizational development programs and strategies.
Duke University Health System
The Duke University Health System (DUHS) Diversity Education for Staff course helps health care workers become aware of unconscious biases and stereotypes that may influence their ability to provide patient-centered care. Through this course, they recognize how diversity and inclusion, cultural competence, and implicit bias affect their view of patients and colleagues.
This training has been developed using evidence-based research integrating The Joint Commission standards that directly affect patient safety and quality of care. It also uses several adult learning paradigms to encourage self-reflection and group exchanges that align with the health system’s values.
