Duke will take reasonable steps to provide meaningful access to its programs, activities, and services to individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).

Duke University Language Assistance

Requests for language assistance from LEP persons attempting to access Duke University programs or activities may be made to the Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) at 919-684-8222, or oie-help@duke.edu oie-help@duke.edu. Upon receiving a request, OIE will assess the request and identify available resources such as interpreting and translation services. Language assistance services are free for individuals in need of service. Interpreter services cannot be provided on demand.

Duke Health Language Assistance

Duke Health offers free language assistance services for all patients, their families, and loved ones who prefer to communicate in a language other than English. Requests for language assistance from LEP persons attempting to access services at Duke Health may be made by calling the numbers below.

An “I Speak” card is available in 38 languages to assist LEP individuals in identifying their language when requesting language assistance services.

Any person who believes they have been denied meaningful access under this plan may file a complaint using the applicable policy and procedure detailed on OIE's webpage.
